What Is EPAC Inc.?
EPAC Inc. (Eighth Point Association Community Sports And Athletics Network Inc.) was established and founded as a subsidiary of the Eighth Point Association in 1985.
The Eighth Point Association is a non-profit, multi-service community service organization founded May 1975. During its earlier years, the Eighth Point Association provided a wide array of community services including an annual Summer Youth Enrichment Program. Through this program, approximately 200 youths per year were employed and trained in preparation for future permanent employment. The youths were taught proper work habits and etiquette along with interview skills. The program was conducted in conjunction with the Wayne State University Student Activities Department, the Detroit Department Of Health and C.E.T.A. Certified teachers along with other professionals contributed to the administration of the program.
Later, the Eighth Point Association evolved to include indigent services and counseling for troubled youths. From these activities, EPAC Inc. emerged as the sports and athletics network of the organization. It uses sports and recreation as the principle means for enrichment and character development.
Since its inception in 1985 as a Table Tennis Team, EPAC Inc. has evolved to include Gymnastics and Power Tumbling, Judo and Martial Arts, Weight Training & Body Building, Pom Pom and Cheerleading, Western African Dance Forms and several other activities. In 1988 EPAC Inc established the annual Motor City Showcase Awards Day Banquet and Motor City Showcase Tournaments and Exhibitions.
